Adobe
Acrobat Reader
Acrobat lets you view PDF document. PDF stands for portable document
format. Many companies supply manuals, documentation and other printed
materials in PDF format. PDF is popular because PDF documents look
on the screen exactly like they would look printed - you are gauranteed
that a PDF looks like it is supposed to.
Drempels
It's hard to describe but indredible to see. Drempels turns your Windows
desktop into flowing, fluidly moving designs and patterns. It really
is stunning - and you can still see and use your desktop icons. Note:
you need at least an 800Mhz processor and a high-end, fast 3D card.
If you do not have the hardware do not try to run this.
Winamp
A nice, simple MP3 player.
Sasami2k
Sasami2k plays movies on your PC. It is a great replacement for Windows
Media Player. It has many advanced features, including real time filters
to improve video quality. The best thing about Sasami2k is that it's
controls are normally hidden - they appear when you move you mouse
over the video.
Note: Sasami2k is in Beta testing - it has a habit of
crashing and having errors.
DivX
A good free MPEG4 video codec. Videos encoded with Divx are very high
quality - they are almost DVD quality. Divx works best on a computer
with a 600Mhz or faster processor, though many Divx videos will play
on a computer with a 400Mhz processor.
VirtualDub
VirtualDub is a free video editing, video capture and video encoding
program. It is very powerful - and also quite complex. It can be used
with an inexpenssive TV card (such as the Hauppauge WinTV) and the
free DivX codec to create very high quality personal recordings and
home videos.
