Compression Utilities
Compressing files makes them smaller. It lets you send large files
over the internet faster or let you fit more files on a floppy disk.
ZIP is the most commonly used type of file compression.
Stick to Winzip and ZIP files unless you need to use one of the other
types of file compression.
ZIP
files - WinZip
Winzip is used to create and access ZIP files - files that end in
.ZIP. Winzip is a good, easy to use and affordable program. The shareware
program can be downloaded and installed for free from the Winzip web
site.
RAR
files - WinRar
WinRar is used to create and access RAR files - files that end in
.RAR. RAR is the next most common type of compression, after zip.
WinRar is very good at breaking up a huge file (for example over 100MB)
into many smaller compressed pieces.
